Tennessee white water rafting has a lot to offer, having hosted the 1996 Olympic kayaking event on the Ocoee River you can be sure that Tennessee will be able to provide you with the challenging and enjoyable Rapids you seek. The Ocoee River for instance has some excellent class two and four Rapids that are great for getting the adrenaline rushing, what’s more the River winds its way through the Smoky Mountains which provide spectacular scenery.

There are 20 class three and four Rapids to be dealt with along the middle Ocoee River, these will take around two hours to complete. Then on the upper Ocoee River you can find some more class three and four Rapids that allow for around 90 minutes rafting time.

All of the Rapids are surrounded by beautiful views of the mountains around the River. A lot of people often choose to raft the entire river so as to experience the full beauty of the place.

If you want more, you can always visit the eastern side of Tennessee and take on the Pigeon River’s five-mile trip of Class three and four rapids. Some of the Rapids names to look out for here are Vegamatic, Lost Guide and Too Late. The Tennessee white water rafting near offers spectacular natural views as the Pigeon River cuts its way through the mountains leaving boulders and excitement along its path.

The more tranquil options

Even though a lot of the river trips through the rapids offer pools in which to catch your breath, the lower Pigeon River offers an opportunity for the less adventurous and/or experience to enjoy the scenic beauty. You will find that most rafting trips have state-imposed limitations on ages and sizes of those in the party, however trips down the lower Pigeon River can be handled by anyone who is at least three years old.

To make it a true unforgettable rafting adventure, many guides can coordinate trips in such a way that your Tennessee white water rafting group can meet up with the floaters and end the river trip together.

It won’t matter which river you choose to raft upon, white water rafting in Tennessee will go on regardless of the weather. The truth of the matter is that when it comes to rafting it really doesn’t matter whether it’s raining or not as as soon as you start rafting you’re going to get soaked anyway.

Because of this it is essential that you wear the right gear. You should have no problem in renting the correct equipment directly from a Tennessee white water rafting centre and they should be able to advise you of what to expect if it should be your first time. Don’t worry if you do not have any experience, as as long as you go with a proper guide down the gentler Rapids to start off with you will be fine. It is worth mentioning though that you should be in fairly good physical shape, you don’t have to be an Olympic runner or anything but you don’t really want to be too overweight either.
